What verification means on Middleman

Every Pro on Middleman is checked by a person, not an algorithm, before their badge appears. We check that the credentials they claim are real, current, and belong to them.

Verification confirms: the licence, registration, insurance and identity documents supplied were sighted and confirmed against the relevant public register or issuing body on the date shown.

Verification does not confirm: quality of workmanship, reliability, pricing, safety practices, financial stability, or that a licence or policy remains current after the check date.

Customers should still do their own due diligence: get a written quote, confirm the licence covers the specific work, and check the licence is still current at qbcc.qld.gov.au before work begins.

The Pro tier

Contractor — licensed trade work

Required before the badge is issued:

RequirementWhat we check
QBCC licenceRequired for builders, plumbers and air-conditioning trades, whose work needs a QBCC licence at any value. Optional for other trades, which need one only for jobs over $3,300; where it's given, it's shown on the profile. Any licence given is confirmed on the QBCC public register: current, in the holder's or company's name, and covering the class of work they list on Middleman.
Electrical licencesElectrical work is licensed by the Electrical Safety Office, not QBCC. Electricians give both their electrical licence and their electrical contractor licence, and both are confirmed with the Electrical Safety Office.
ABNConfirmed active on ABN Lookup and matching the business name used.
GST registrationStatus confirmed on ABN Lookup (displayed on profile, not mandatory).
Public liability insuranceCertificate of currency sighted. Insured name must match the business. Expiry date recorded.
IdentityPhoto ID matching the licence holder's name.

Keeping verification current

Insurance and licence expiry dates are recorded. Members receive a reminder 30 days before expiry.

If a document expires and is not replaced, the verified badge is removed and the member can't quote until it is renewed. Their profile stays visible.

Members must tell us immediately if a licence or insurance policy lapses, is suspended, or is cancelled.

We re-check all Contractor licences on the QBCC register every 6 months.

Losing verification

A badge may be suspended or removed if a document expires, a register check fails, a member misrepresents credentials, or QBCC or another body takes action against them. Serious cases — unlicensed licensed-trade work, falsified documents — mean permanent removal.
